This is the darkest of the Delphiniums. This is unsurpassed for providing a dramatic, eye-catching display. Dark purple flowers with black bees appear in early summer and possibly again in autumn. Tall stately flower spikes are admired for their dignified appearance. An old-fashioned favorite for traditional perennial gardens. Effective in cutting gardens. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
Fertilize before flowering time. Often need staking or some form of support in windy areas. Cut back all old growth when new basal growth is visible.
